A 40-year-old Southampton man who admitted busting up a Capital G ‘no wait’ deposit box and stealing $340 in cash was remanded in custody yesterday.Ian Steede Raynor apologised to the court before telling Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he deserved a break due to his guilty plea.Crown Counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that the incident occurred during the early morning hours of last Thursday.The defendant was arrested at his home and detained by police the following day.Ms Clarke said the accused admitted the crime when interviewed by the police. He told the officers that he needed the cash to pay off his cocaine debt.His brother also appeared in court to say the defendant has the full support of his family.“He does extremely well when he applies himself but when he starts approaching a year he drops off, we’re lost as to why but he has to do it,” he said.Mr Raynor told the court that he has a job and that he would like to pay restitution for the damage he did to the Capital G deposit box on Reid Street in Hamilton.He also held up a piece of newspaper that he read out in court that he felt entitled him to a substantial discount because of his guilty plea.Mr Warner replied: “You’ve had ample discounts over an ample number of years.”He then read out a long list of convictions and sentences dating back to 2006 before remanding Mr Raynor in custody until November 8 for sentencing.
