The Lighthouse Tea Room has magnificent views of all points on the compass which can be seen from any of its 50 seats.

"The views are unreal,'' said the Tea Room's manager and co-owner, Mr. Kevin Burke.

"You have great views across the South Shore on one side and from Riddells Bay to Dockyard on the other.

'' The business is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and serves traditional English teas.

There is clotted cream, scones, jam, toasted tea cakes, thick English-style toast and even pork pies.

The Tea Room is owned by Mr. Burke, his son Michael (who also runs Blue Water Divers) and Mr. Terry Pryse.

It is managed jointly by Mr. Burke and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Janice Burke.

Mr. Burke was previously a dietary supervisor at St. Brendan's psychiatric hospital and Mr. Pryse manages the butcher's department of Miles Supermarket.

They won a bidding contest run by Government to turn the three-bedroom lighthouse keeper's cottage at the base of the lighthouse into a cafe.

A lot of money has been spent converting the former home into a modern Tea Room.

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is one of Bermuda's most popular tourist attractions and is visited by as many as 80,000 visitors per year.

The Tea Room operators are hoping that a significant proportion of these will stop and have something to eat and drink after their long walk to the top of the lighthouse.
