A total of 15 people were caught in breach of the midnight curfew over the weekend, police said yesterday.

The news sparked a warning from Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes that the regulations would continue to be enforced.

He added that people found guilty in court would get a criminal record and could face problems when travelling overseas.

Mr Weekes said: “While we would much prefer compliance as opposed to prosecution, the BPS has a duty to uphold the law and will continue to prepare files on individuals arrested for breach of curfew, to be assessed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, which will determine what, if any, charges are to be brought.”

He told the public: “It cannot be stressed strongly enough that overseas authorities may take note of these offences should you be convicted in court and question travellers on their reasons for having committed offences against the Covid regulations when seeking entry into their country.”

Mr Weekes said regular curfew checkpoints would be set up.

He warned the public: “I again urge that when leaving a location or event, you allow yourselves ample time to get to your final destination before the midnight start of the curfew.”
