Local artists in the spotlight
show this week. Taking its cue from the Bermuda National Gallery's exhibition of American Impressionist Paintings from the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Windjammer is staging a show featuring `Contemporary Bermudian Impressionists'.
Some of Bermuda's leading artists who may be said to paint in an impressionistic style are taking part, and include Diana Amos, Susan Curtis, Sheilagh Head, John Kaufmann, Steven Masters, Maria Smith and Diana Tetlow.
"I thought it would be interesting to tie in with the show at the National Gallery,'' says proprietor Susan Curtis, who will also be showing a selection of her own paintings of the south of France.
"We chose people who exhibit with us and we are happy to announce that Steven Masters and Diana Tetlow are now also taking part. We wanted to keep the numbers manageable, however, and not so huge that it became a public forum. I think there is a wonderful mix of work which should have a very wide appeal.'' `Contemporary Bermudian Impressionists' opens to the public at Windjammer's main gallery on the corner of King and Reid Streets, on Friday, November 21 and continues through Christmas.
