Cougars move closer to title with comfortable victory

Dev. Cougars 4 Flanagan’s 0Digicel Premier Division league leaders Devonshire Cougars re-established their nine point lead atop the table with their win over Flanagan’s Onions at Devonshire Rec last night.In a match that they dominated from start to finish, it wasn’t until one minute before the break when Darius Cox’s long range effort sneaked into the Onions near post that they grabbed the lead.Domico Coddington had a chance to put the hosts ahead midway through the first half, but could only find the Onions goalkeeper with his effort from close range.Dimitri Daniels doubled the lead in the 65th minute when he latched onto a Moses Steede through ball that was left by Kor-von Tucker who was in an offside position. Daniels then turned provider, finding substitute Che Brangman who dispatched his effort in the 75th minute to make it 3-0 for the home team.Kenny DeSilva capped off a fine night with his goal after niftywork by Coddington allowed the youngster to score from close range in the 88th minute.“In games like this where you can put pressure on your rivals to keep up, it is important to make the most of them,” said Cougars skipper Chris Caisey afterwards.“The gap is extended and with Dandy Town playing North Village on Sunday this win can prove to be vital in the big picture.”The win moves Cougars on to 34 points with three games remaining, nine ahead of Town and Village in three team race for the title that could be reduced to two after this weekend’s matches.Devonshire Colts 1Ireland Rangers 1(match abandoned, light failure)The First Division clash between Devonshire Colts and Somerset Eagles was abandoned in the 21st minute after the floodlight in one of the corners went out. Eli Smith gave Colts the lead in the 11th minute before Eagles defender Devon Riley equalised for the west enders.
