load equipment from the US Naval Air Station which will be closing in a few weeks.

The USS Strong Cajun arrived on Friday and was loaded with 80 40-foot long containers.

She left the following day.

The USS Portland arrived on Saturday and berthed in St. George's. She was loaded with 49 pieces which primarily included military vehicles. She left on Sunday.

On the cruise ship scene, Meyer Agencies Ltd. reported that the Regal Empress would be visiting Bermuda tomorrow and would berth at Number Five and Six Docks. She was due to return to New York on Friday afternoon. The number of passengers on board was not available at press time.

The Horizon arrived on Monday morning and berthed at Number One Dock in Hamilton with 1,619 passengers. She was due to shift to St. George's this morning and was expected to leave for New York tomorrow afternoon.

The Dreamward also arrived on Monday morning and berthed at Penno's Wharf before moving to Number Five and Six Docks yesterday morning. She was carrying 1,392 passengers. She was expected to leave for New York tomorrow afternoon.

Meyer also reported that the Meridian arrived at King's Wharf, Dockyard, yesterday morning from New York with 1,318 passengers. She was due to return to New York on Friday.

The Song of America and Royal Majesty both arrived in St. George's yesterday with 1,455 and 1,050 passengers, respectively, local agents John S. Darrell reported.

Royal Majesty berthed at Ordinance Island and will return to Boston on Friday afternoon. Song of America berthed overnight and was due to shift to Number One Dock this morning. She was due to leave on Friday afternoon.

In other shipping news, three container ships arrived in Hamilton.

Container Ship Management reported that the Oleander arrived on Sunday afternoon with 121 dry containers and 43 refrigerated containers. Also on board were two trailers of steel, two trucks, two dumpsters and a golf cart.

She left on Monday afternoon.

On Monday morning the Somers Isles arrived carrying 82 containers of which four were refrigerated. She was also carrying three boats. She was due to leave this afternoon.

Meyer Agencies said the Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday afternoon with 72 dry containers and five refrigerated containers. She was also carrying a 55-foot smokestack for the Belco. She left for New Jersey on Tuesday morning.

GOING HOME -- Military vehicles from the US Naval Air Station were loaded onto the USS Portland (below) this past weekend for the voyage back to the United States. Vehicles such as the fire engine (above) were driven onto landing craft which then entered a compartment in the stern of the USS Portland . This compartment then emptied of water which allowed the vehicles to drive off into the hold of the ship.
