Green family launches scholarship scheme
A philanthropic family from Warwick has introduced a new scholarship for high school students looking for the chance to continue their education at universities overseas.
The Green Family Scholarships are a result of the collective generosity of Peter, Alexander and Andrew Green of Marshall’s Island.
As many as five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded annually and each recipient can rely on the money for four years of schooling, as long as a certain level of academic performance is maintained.
A press release from the Green family said: “The scholarship is designed to help students who otherwise would be unable to afford higher education costs.”
This isn’t the first time the Greens have pitched in on an education effort.
The family has given to institutions of higher learning in the United Kingdom and the United States. They also support a full scholarship high school in Jamaica.
Peter Green said: “We feel that every young Bermudian should have the opportunity to attend college or university and believe the Green Family Scholarship will start to help achieve this goal.
“With up to 40 scholarships being available in future years these will make a significant contribution to Bermuda.”
Students interested in the new scholarship can apply through Knowledge Quest, which is a registered charity. Applicants must prove financial need in order to be considered for a Green Family Scholarship.
