Learning the importance of helping others
On February 13, the children of Wesley Methodist Church donated $3,495 to four local charities during the 11 o’clock service. My Sunday School, at Wesley Methodist Church, has just finished a study unit called ‘City Streets.’ The unit helped us to understand the importance of helping others. Each class was challenged to find a local charity and raise funds for it.The classes were very creative choosing a car wash, trash-a-thon, teddy bear tea party and doing odd jobs for the elderly, as well as contributing allowance money, to getting funds for the various charities. The charities chosen were: Windreach Recreational Village, the Bermuda Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. Cheques were presented on Sunday, February 13, 2011 during the morning worship. The 2-4 year old class raised $546 for feeding animals at Windreach. The 5-7 year old class raised $1,373 for the work of the Salvation Army. The 8-11 year old class raised $765 for the Red Cross. The teens raised $811 for Meals on Wheels.I learned that while raising funds for overseas causes, many local organisations need our help too.
