A Warwick man has admitted unlawfully wounding another man during an incident last year.

Dennis Maynard, 43, had been charged with attacking Raymond Jones with intent to wound or cause grievous bodily harm in an incident which took place on October 11 last year.

He denied that offence, but during an appearance in the Arraignments session this morning he pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of “simple” wounding, which does not include the element of intent. That plea was subsequently accepted by the Crown.

Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves ordered that a social inquiry report be carried out on Maynard before sentencing, releasing the defendant on bail until the November arraignments session to be mentioned in order a sentencing date can be set.

The matter was one of several heard during the session.

Also appearing was Dean Byron, 51, who denied attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to Penelope Henry by dangerous driving in an incident on April 25 in Paget.

He also denied charges of dangerous driving, threatening behaviour, two counts of causing wilful damage and possessing an offensive weapon — specifically a baseball bat — in connection to the same incident. Mr Byron was given a trial date for next month.

Meanwhile, a 46-year-old Paget man denied a series of sexual offences, including four counts of sexual exploitation of a young person while in a position of trust and another count of sexual assault. All of the offences were connected to a single victim, and occurred on an unknown date between September, 2012 and March, 2013.

Neither the defendant nor the victim can be identified for legal reasons.

A warn date was set for the matter next month, while a fixed trial date was set for next February.
