Friday on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke.

The 27-year-old man said he was riding a bike with a female pillion passenger opposite the Bacardi International building when a man riding a cycle overtook them and slowed down, causing the couple to stop.

The man then got off his bike, approached the couple, and without provocation, punched the victim in the face.

Four other men on cycles then joined the first assailant and began beating the victim, while his female companion stood by helplessly.

The complainant said he was able to ride off toward Spanish Point when he realised that he had received a deep laceration to his cheek.

He was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he received five stitches.

Brief descriptions have been obtained and enquiries are continuing.
