Hood thrash Zebras to send out early season warning
Robin Hood FC Ladies issued a stern warning to all that oppose after thrashing PHC Lady Zebras 11-0 during the weekend’s Women’s League season-opener at BFA Field.Donte Allen led the rout for Hood (formerly Lady Cougars) with a superb hat-trick while skipper Ebonie Burgess and Akilah Berkeley Bremar both netted braces.Others getting their names on the scoresheet were Zakiya Maynard, Tamisha Darrell, Precious Smith and Caterina Luckhurst.Hood’s player/coach Chevonne Furbert was pleased with the result but insisted there’s still room for improvement.“For the first game it was a good result and confidence booster for the team,” she said. “But we still have a long way to go because I saw a lot of areas on the field that need to be worked on moving onto the season.“We still really haven’t had full training sessions so once those things come together I think it will only get better. There’s still a lot of work to be done and I have told the girls they need to show up for training so we can work on those things that need to be fixed.”Furbert heaped praise upon Allen’s fine treble.“I was very pleased with Donte,” she said. “I know that any position I put Donte in she is going to work very hard and give me some type of results.”Furbert was also delighted to see skipper Burgess get in on the scoring act after playing most of the match at centre back.“When I pushed Ebonie up she was able to get two quick ones so I have scoring options coming from all over the field,” she said.Saturday’s opening contest at BFA Field saw North Village Lady Rams thump Dandy Stars 5-0.Naquita Robinson, wife of St David’s and Bermuda cricketer Sammy, led Lady Rams’ charge with a brace while Tershea Webb, Khyla Brangman and Jennifer Toope added one apiece.Next weekend will see Lady Zebras take on Dandy Stars (5pm) followed by the contest between Hood and Lady Rams to kick off at 7pm.Earlier this year Lady Rams were crowned Women’s Indoor Futsal champions.
