Govt seeks nominations for Tech Awards

The Ministry of Business Development and Tourism is seeking nominations for the Technology Innovation Awards.Now in its sixth year, TechAwards is an opportunity to publicly recognise the outstanding achievements in Bermuda’s information technology industry.By supporting the TechAwards, the Ministry aims to highlight the talent and expertise of the local technology community and as such, is appealing to the public to nominate their favourite technology innovations in Bermuda. Last year’s TechAwards garnered 122 nominations and this year the Ministry hopes to attract even more as this competition demonstrates Bermuda’s technology strengths both locally and internationally.Business Development and Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert said: “An industry that is constantly evolving and expanding through the development and creation of new devices, computers, sophisticated programming and more powerful machines we must wholeheartedly encourage and embrace those who contribute to such advancements in technology.”The categories for TechAwards 2012 from which the public can nominate a business or an individual that they feel is making a difference in Bermuda are:— Best Interactive Experience— Best Business Solution Using Technology— Best Local E-Commerce Web Site— Best Local Mobile Application— Most Inspiring Technology Teacher or Mentor— Most Innovative Youth Project— Innovation of the Year — Local Market Focus— Innovation of the Year — International FocusAll nominations should be made online through the government portal or ecommerce.gov.bm where the categories are listed along with the criteria. The closing date for nominations is Friday, October 26, at 5pm.The Technology Innovation Awards will be given to the winners during a reception to be held on the evening of Thursday, November 29, at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
