Man steals $22,000, gets courtroom break

A 22-year-old was given another chance after he admitted stealing close to $22,000 in property for a Smith's Parish home.

Shannon Trott, of Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke appeared in Magistrates' Court and pleaded quality to charges of breaking and entering, theft of a motor vehicle and destruction of property. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves handed down three 12-month sentences, and suspended them for two years. Should Trott appear before the courts within that time he will face imprisonment.

Trott pleaded guilty to the offences when he and another person not before the court stole electronic equipment from the home while the residents were off the Island.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told the court that between December 15 and 16 of December of last year, Trott and a friend entered through a door which they had destroyed. Police later found the owners's car abandoned on Vesey Street in Hamilton.

Acting on tips, Police arrested Trott in April and he was found with the cable box. Trott's record dates back to 1995 and, Ms Clarke reminded the court that every kind of sentence had been handed out to Trott ever since.

When asked if he had anything to say, Trott said: "Those are things which happened before. I have two jobs and I have a son. All I'm asking for now is a chance."
