One Bermuda Alliance legislators yesterday made their first salary cut donation to charity.Craig Cannonier presented a cheque for $2,875 to Rev Nicholas Dill of St John’s Church and Rev Musa Daba of St Augustine’s Church, to assist their free evening meal programme at St Augustine’s.The OBA had rejected a proposal by Premier Paula Cox for a salary cut and pension freeze, and instead opted to donate five percent of their salaries to charity.“That cut was duly made for the first time on March 1, by OBA legislators for the month of March, and the OBA has now presented its first cheque to the Rev Nicholas Dill of St John’s Church, for their Pembroke Parish community evening meal programme at St Augustine’s Church,” read a statement from the OBA.About 100 people show up at St Augustine’s in Pembroke every Wednesday evening for the volunteer-supported meal programme which began in September.“The OBA believes that this kind of assistance, given unconditionally to families who need it, is the best kind of charity for these troubled times,” said OBA leader Craig Cannonier.“We would like the volunteer workers who keep this programme going to know how much we admire what they are doing. Hopefully, the example they set will not go unnoticed in the community.”
