A celebration of two decades of music and fashion will take place this Saturday night as BermyNet and Docksiders Pub & Restaurant play host to 70s vs 80s Night: Battle of the Decades.

"We wanted to create an atmosphere where you and a bunch of your friends could go to remember the good times," Brenton Richardson, the founder of entertainment website BermyNet said of the event, which will be MC'd by comedians Nadanja and Jah.

"It's perfect for a ladies night or just a guys night out, plus patrons will have double the pleasure by being able to hear music from both 70s and 80s. The management of Docksiders has provided the perfect venue for this type of event with their two rooms."

Mr. Richardson hopes to have patrons traipsing through time.

"Being a music lover myself, I've personally had my 70s and 80s collections out all week and they just seem never to get old," he said. "All in all, we just want to take people back and hope they have a great time."

When asked if patrons would be encouraged to dress the part of either the bell-bottomed stranger or to be the hip bouffant sporting 80s disco dancer, Mr. Richardson replied: "Oh most definitely!

"We think people have been waiting to strut their stuff since Halloween and we're hoping people break out the hairdos to match — like the side ponytails and Afros."

There are also prizes for the best-dressed couple from each decade.

It has been a while for the fans of BermyNet bashes, but Mr. Richardson assured patrons that was about to change.

"We've been quiet for some time, however, we're looking forward to creating themed events every now and again for those looking for good music and a good time," he said.

Two of the Island's popular DJs will be spinning the vinyl. "We have 70s music in the main room by Malcolm (Lethal Weapon) Smith, who is one of Bermuda's finest DJs," Mr. Richardson said. "He's assured us he has the best collection of 70s music bar-none. So we're anticipating a fantastic party in his room.

"We also have DJ Double S, who we all know and love from happy hour at Hamilton Princess and Black and Water Entertainment.

"He is representing all those people who love the 80s and he has also mentioned how he plans to have more people in his room then Malcolm, but we'll see.

"They're both really talented DJs and patrons can expect a fantastic show.

"All in all we anticipate nothing short of a really good party!"

Tickets, $20 in advance or $25 at the door, can be purchased from The Docksiders Pub & Restaurant on Front Street.

Tickets can also be preordered by ringing either 296-3333 or 336-6181. Space is limited.
