The Ministry of Health last night confirmed four new cases of the coronavirus.

The results were among 1,400 test results that came back to health officials.

A health ministry spokeswoman said all of the cases were Bermudians who had returned from overseas – three from Miami and one from New York.

One arrived on American Airline’s flight from Miami on February 18 and tested positive on arrival.

Another arrived on the JetBlue flight from New York on February 16 and tested positive on their Day 4 test.

The third arrived on AA’s February 14 flight from Miami and tested positive on their Day 4 test.

The final last case also arrived from Miami on the AA February 6 flight and tested positive on their day 14 test.

The new cases brought the total number of active cases to ten.

A total of nine patients are being monitored by public health officials and one is in hospital, but not in intensive care.

The island has recorded a total of 703 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 12 patients have died since the pandemic struck last March.

The seven-day average of the real time reproduction number is less than one, and Bermuda’s country status remained at “sporadic cases”.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said the island was still in the second phase of the vaccination programme.

Ms Wilson added: “Phase 2 is for anyone 50 years or older, an essential traveller – medical or school travel – persons with heart disease, chronic kidney disease or diabetes, for example, as well as those with disabilities.

She told the public: “If you are in Phase 2, please register your interest by using our online form, which allows residents to register their interest easily, efficiently and conveniently.”

Ms Wilson said that people in Phase 1A & 1B, and Phase 2, and were interested in getting the shots should visit https://forms.gov.bm/covidvaccine.

She added that the information in the form would be kept private and that vaccines would continue to be allocated based on need.
