As I walked through the open window to the soul, there hung an array of exhibits brilliantly coloured with many shades of blue.

There were a few other colours entailing detail.

I took the time to concentrate on every intricate design. I didn’t understand fully, although, I had some idea of the meaning of the artist’s exquisite pieces.

The artist explained in detail and was very sincere. The experience was very enlightening.

It was almost as if I were sharing her feelings at the time.

Twenty-year-old Vanessa J. Bean of Cedar Park Road, Devonshire, exhibited an impeccable display of art at the opening of her show at Bermuda College on October 19.

She attends the College in pursuit of becoming an interior designer.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience “Window To Your Soul” I personally advise you to take this opportunity.

The exhibit ends today but the doors will be open from 8.30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

It can be viewed in the North Hall, second level, Art Gallery.

“Window To Your Soul” is a very captivating display of the artist’s creativity and emotions. At the opening, Vanessa took the time to share with every individual, in detail, what every piece meant to her, after instructing everyone to walk through and interpret what her designs meant to us.

The materials used are very innovative and show the artist’s many skills.

As I stood at the entrance, there hung from the ceiling, five royal blue rims. Their perfect alignment enables you to focus in on the first of three rims against the back wall. I found it very interesting. It was almost as if the cylinder formation of rims had magnification power.

In the centre of the rim against the back, was a cross, painted on a silver-painted tin can. Vanessa is very strong in faith.

Her Christianity has led her to be an actively involved member at the St. Phillips AME Church.

She said the cross represented her faith in Jesus Christ. The two rims placed beside it also had silver-painted tin cans in them.

One of a heart, which represents her love and the other of a key, which she explained, represents security.

They are drawings between the five hanging rims as well. The first is of a tree, representing personal growth through life’s endeavours. Next, there is a book that represents knowledge. The third and fourth pictures were very interesting.

The drawing of a candle represents her courage and desire to succeed. The eye represents her vision for the future — which to me looks very bright.

Vanessa has a lot of interesting exhibits, one of which stood out immensely. At the entrance opposite the hanging rims, there are three pictures of three different cloud formations hung on the wall, which she explained very well. Frankly, I do not believe I could have ever come up with her synopsis about the clouds compared to our everyday lives. She said that there is a world of opportunity and, if you take the time to look into the sky, you’ll be able to realise its uniqueness with every changing moment, which represents our uniqueness and ever changing lives.

That was definitely an eyebrow raiser!

Vanessa’s proud mother Beverly Bean said her daughter had spent many long hours in preparation for the exhibition.

I do not want to give away any more of Vanessa’s surprises but there is a variety of artwork that will broaden your horizons and encourage you to look deep with-in and ask yourself a question I asked myself — “Where will my future take me?”

“Window To Your Soul” is an excellent and calming exhibition of meaningful art. It is an experience like no other. It is more than just art. It is full of creative meaning and self-explanatory emotion accompanied by soft instrumental music that was created especially for the exhibition. I believe everyone that has seen the works of Vanessa Bean will delightfully join me in congratulating her on a job well done. Her hard work and dedication have definitely paid off.
