Customers queue up for cookware
Customers could be seen waiting to cash in on discounted culinary wares at a local cook shop holding its first-ever sale today as retail discounts continue to attract people to shop in Hamilton.Lines were seven people deep at the two-register front desk of International Imports on Par-la-Ville Road yesterday waiting to purchase high-end culinary items such as Wusthof knives, pots, appliances, gadgets and Le Creuset dishes all for discounted prices.“My wife picked up a Creuset pot at a good price and they are usually pretty expensive,” said one customer.According to co-owner Sheena Trott, the store has been slammed from the very start of the sale.“It’s been chaos since the sale started but our customers have been very patient,” she said. “We are very grateful for the public response; we have a fabulous customer base.”The sale, which is to help move merchandise out of the store so that renovations can take place, started on Tuesday offering 15 percent off appliances and 30 percent off everything else in the store.International Imports opened in the mid 1950s but moved to its current Par-la-Ville location in 1983, taking over what was the Travellers Club at the time.“This is our first sale; we’ve never done this before,” said Mrs Trott. “We have to replace the windows in the store because they are falling out and we are replacing the carpet. We are going to try to not close and work around the construction but all the shelving needs to come down and we have to move the merchandise out of the front of the store.”Eight full-time staff members have been called upon to accommodate the busy rush of customers until the sale ends on Saturday.“We still have a good selection of Wustoff knives but the Le Creuset supply is dwindling fast so people should take advantage because the sale will probably never happen again,” said Mrs Trott.
