A Bermudian student has told how a robber threatened him at gunpoint in a street in the UK.

Thomas Edwards, 21, dropped his grocery bags in shock as his attacker thrust the gun in his chest and seized his wallet from his pocket.

Mr. Edwards, who grew up in Flatts but has been studying in England for the past four years, was attacked in Reading, Berkshire, at about 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.

He was making his way home from a visit to a shop with a friend when they were attacked by three men.

Mr. Edwards, a business management student at the University of Reading, said: "Three young men approached us from behind.

"They asked us to stop and we didn't know what was going on, so we stopped.

"The next thing, I was watching as one of them was frisking my friend Charlie.

"Then he came over and tried doing the same to me so I pushed him back.

"Then Charlie told me to calm down. I looked up and saw a gun pointed right at my chest. I dropped my grocery to the floor.

"I didn't have time to think. Before I'd seen the gun I was ready to put up a bit of a fight because the attackers weren't very big. But after I saw the gun my heart stopped beating.

"I just put my hands up in a surrender position and let them take what they wanted. I was telling them there was no money in the wallet but they didn't seem to listen."

Mr. Edwards said it was too dark to tell what kind of gun the offender was carrying. The robbers stole credit cards, student ID cards, driving licences and a small amount of cash before running off. Neither victim was injured in the attack.

Mr. Edwards said he was now trying to put the incident behind him and had no plans to leave England as a result.

He said: "As soon as they left, I turned to my friend and asked him what had happened. It was all a bit surreal. Now I just have to try to get on with my life again.

"I've been looking over my shoulder a few times but I'm just trying not to think about it too much. The more you think about it, the more you worry."

Mr. Edwards' family ? mother Glenda, father Gary and sisters Sam, 24, and Alex, 22, live in Flatts.

Mrs. Edwards said: "Of course we were concerned but Thomas said he wasn't hurt and we are just relieved about that.

"He has lost his credit cards, but they can be replaced.

"You could ask how this could have been prevented, but he was just going about his business so it's impossible to say."
