Fundraiser to benefit young students

The Menuhin Foundation of Bermuda will hold its annual ‘Passport to a World of Wines’ fundraiser on June 28 at the Newstead Belmont Hotel to help in its goal of providing free music lessons to Bermudian pupils.

Foundation chairperson, Terri Allison, said: “This is our main fundraising event of the year and we hope that as many as people as possible will attend and support us.

“Since the Foundation formed in 1976 we have given hundreds of children access to free lessons in stringed instruments and helped to open up the world of music for them.

“We do hope that as many people as possible will support this event, one day it might be your child who stands on the stage and plays”.

The charity started after a visit to the Island by famous violinist Yehudi Menuhin who formed a string group to teach pupils at all of Bermuda’s schools. It was designed to ‘foster and develop an interest in classical and other music and the playing thereof, and to recruit teachers and organise and produce programmes and concerts and other forms of entertainment and musical education’.

The event will feature performances by Menuhin Foundation scholar Alex Fox, the Menuhin West String Ensemble and the Menuhin Quintet.

There will also be silent and live auctions and wine and food from France, Italy, Spain and California will provided.

Tickets are priced at $125 and can be bought from bdatix.bm. For more information e-mail jdgibbons60@gmail.com or call 704-9965.
