Hitmaker Mario pens 'Bermuda' tribute

Rhythm and Blues superstar Mario has released a new song 'Bermuda'

R and B superstar Mario, who performed on the Island back in 2005, has released a new song named after our 24-square-mile paradise. His song ‘Bermuda', which appears to be getting mixed reviews on public forums, such as YouTube and Facebook, could garner some international attention for the Island, according to local singer Propa. The hip hop artist admitted he was friendly with Baltimore-bred musician Mario when he visited the Island six years ago. Propa anticipated it could be a hit on local radio stations and said it would work well if the video was shot in Bermuda. The unsigned artist, whose real name is Jamel Thomas, said the song needed to be marketed properly considering Mario hasn't released any chart-toppers in a while. He said: “The song is different I must say. It kind of comes a little unexpected seeing the fact when he was in Bermuda it was a couple of years ago in terms of the timing of it.“The song could do well, but it kind of depends on the way he does the marketing of the actual project, down to the fact he hasn't been out in a minute and he had some delays on the album [DNA].“For us in general it would be big on Hott 107.5 definitely. It may even be used as a Government anthem in the tourist perspective.”Mario, 24, is best known for songs like ‘Just a Friend', released in 2002, and ‘Let Me Love You', which came out in 2004.He has won two Billboard music awards and had roles in films like ‘Step Up' and ‘Freedom Writers'.While Propa gave some support to the new tune, other comments from the public varied. One person wrote on YouTube: “This is so random”; while another said: “Bigggg up Bermuda!!! That's my hometown, where the pretty girls are at.“Awesome ... love it!love it!love it,” said another fan.“They better shoot the video in Bermy that's all um sayin. Miami somewhere will not look like Bermuda OK?,” added someone else.As of press time last night, the song had been heard by 6,087 people. To listen visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-xPU_-aAq8.
