Two crashes over weekend
Police and first responders attended to two motor vehicle accidents over the weekend.A 58-year-old Pembroke man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving early on Sunday following a single vehicle accident on Middle Road in Paget.The accident occurred near the junction with Valley Road around 2.20am on Sunday, after the car he was driving struck a utility pole.No injuries were reported, however the car was extensively damaged.A police spokesman said the driver was later released after he passed the alco-analyser test.Emergency crews were also called to the scene of another single vehicle accident that occurred around 12.10am on Saturday.The accident occurred on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Granaway Heights Road where a motorcycle rider collided with a wall.A spokesman said: “The motorcycle rider, a 24-year-old Sandys parish man was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial via ambulance for treatment, however his injuries are not believed to be serious.“The motorcycle received extensive front end damage,” he added.A hospital spokeswoman said last night: “The motorcycle rider was treated and released from the Emergency Ward.” Both accidents are now under investigation by police.Meanwhile, police officer arrested 19 people for outstanding warrants over the weekend. Officers also arrested nine people on suspicion of impaired driving and conducted liquor license checks at various locations around the island.
