Reported bid for Wells dismissed by Bradford

Bradford City's Nahki Wells celebrates after scoring his first goal against Northampton Town at Sixfield Stadium at the weekend. City won 3-1 with Wells hitting a hat-trick.

Bradford City insist they will not force Nahki Wells into a speedy decision on his future despite rumours linking him with a move away from Valley Parade. The Bermuda international has returned to the Island while he considers the four-year contract offer made by the English League Two club.Last week Bradford dismissed internet reports that Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United had made a $100,000 bid for striker. But with the 22-year-old already secured for next season, Bradford are not panicking to lock Wells down long term.“Let’s not get too hung up about the Nahki situation,” director of operations David Baldwin told the Advertiser Series.“He has a four-year offer on the table and has gone back home to see his family. He’s been away from them for a long period of time.“Nahki is a young man and quite naturally wants to talk the offer through with his family and friends.“He’ll have a break and we’ll follow it through when he comes back to the UK.“That might take a while but there’s no immediate push for me to resolve it in the next two or three weeks.”Wells bagged 12 goals in his debut campaign with Bradford, including a hat-trick at Northampton Town. One of the lowest-paid players in the squad, he will get a pay rise next season after the club took up an option to extend his original one-year deal.Baldwin added: “We activated the clause by way of an initial reward to him. That was basically telling Nahki that we like him and, in the first instance, triggering the clause shows that we want him here.“That puts him on improved money next year automatically.”In a recent interview with The Royal Gazette Wells declared his intention to remain with Bradford next season. And the club are confident the former Dandy Town man can help fire them into the promotion picture next term.Baldwin said: “Nahki will be here at Bradford City next season and hopefully sticking the goals in for fun. Within that process we’ll look to secure his services for longer.“Any fear of him not being back next year has been allayed by Nahki himself. He’s enjoying what he’s doing.“And he’s still got his clothes in the wardrobe at the clubhouse so he’s intending to return.”
