Bacardi Ltd is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding in February by hosting parties throughout the year in exclusive locations across the globe.Here in Bermuda, the company will be celebrating by honouring long-service employees at an event in February. The global year-long activities will culminate in December with the installation of a time capsule at the Bermuda world headquarters that will include items and memorabilia from Bacardi offices around the world.“The passion and entrepreneurial spirit shown by my great-great grandfather in Santiago de Cuba a century and a half ago gave birth to exceptional rum that would change the spirits industry forever,” said Facundo L Bacardi, Bacardi Ltd chairman and fifth-generation Bacardi family member. “These qualities remain key to our phenomenal success and position today as the world’s favourite and most awarded rum brand, with more than 400 awards to date.”The company will also introduce a limited edition decanter of rare Bacardi rum created especially for the anniversary. There will only be 400 decanters available, which will retail for $2,000.Bacardi was founded in Santiago de Cuba on February 4, 1862, when Don Facundo Bacardí Massó purchased a small distillery. Bacardi Ltd has become the third-largest spirits company in the world and includes brands such as Grey Goose, Bombay Sapphire and Dewar’s Scotch whisky in addition to its brands of rum and rum cocktails.
