Hospital chefs said they could dispel a belief that hospital food was unappetising after they completed a nutrition course.

Members of the Bermuda Hospitals Board’s food services team took the 16-week course in nutrition run by registered dietitian Arlene MacGuinness.

Thomas Frost, the BHB’s executive chef, said: “The course was beneficial in that it brought the whole team together where we could pause and focus on how we can improve our service, both to patients and to staff.”

Romey McDonald, a hospital cook, added: “Knowing I play a part in the health of staff and patients who eat what I prepare motivates me to do my best.

“To know what’s nutritious and how to retain the nutrition in those items so that they can benefit those who consume it is important.”
