False statements cost man $650

Ernest Glasford admitted driving while disqualified and making false statements on March 22.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said officers on patrol noticed Glasford while he was driving west on South Road, Paget, because of his "suspicious actions''.
Insp. Duffy said Glasford appeared nervous and when asked his name, hesitated before replying, "Smith''. The officers asked his correct name and he again gave a false answer, this time including an age and address.
He was taken to the Police Station where he gave the correct information and it was discovered he was driving while disqualified.
Insp. Duffy said Glasford was taken off the road until February 24, 1993, after he was convicted of speeding.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Glasford $350 for driving while disqualified and ordered a further 18-month disqualification until August 24, 1994.
For the false statements, Glasford was ordered to pay $300.

Richard Sousa of Mariner's Lane, pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrates' Court.
Insp. Duffy said officers spotted Sousa's taxi at the corner of Reid and Burnaby Streets on February 28 at 1.20 a.m.
He said officers followed the taxi and watched as it drifted from side to side all the way to Pitts Bay Road.
Sousa was arrested and an alco-analyser test revealed there was 199 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in his system. Sousa told Mr. Francis he was not working at the time of the incident. "Outside of whatever penalty you serve on me, I'm going to be unemployed for the duration that I lose my licence,'' he said.
KITCHEN PORTER STOLE FROM RHADC CTS Kitchen Porter stole from RHADC A former kitchen porter at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club who stole $200 from her ex-employers was fined $500.
Unemployed Carol Daniels, 43, of Footpath Lane, Pembroke, was ordered to compensate the Paget club from her fine.
Daniels pleaded guilty to stealing the money from a filing cabinet at the premises on February 24.
Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, said Daniels had resigned from the club 10 days earlier. She knew where the money was kept, and took it because she wanted cigarettes.
Sgt. Giles said Daniels told Police she had acted on impulse after being depressed over not finding work.
