Berkeley hit by Covid-19 case
A Covid-19 case has been identified at a secondary school, it was revealed this morning.
A spokesman for the board of governors at the Berkeley Institute in Pembroke said an individual had been confirmed as infected.
The spokesman added: “The individual confirmed with Covid-19 has been isolated and the epidemiology and surveillance unit is contacting confirmed close contacts.
“These persons are being advised that they must quarantine – that is, stay home from school and other activities – and also get tested for Covid-19.”
He added an assessment had been carried out to gauge potential risk at the school.
The spokesman said: “Following the assessment, further communication will be given on public health guidelines, as appropriate, that must be followed, such as quarantine and testing.”
He added: “All students, parents, teachers, staff and their families are asked to follow general public health guidelines.
“Once the results of the risk assessment is received from the Ministry of Health, a notice will be issued to the Berkeley family in the first instance.
“The school will continue to operate in accordance with its Covid-related protocols until otherwise notified.”
The health ministry said yesterday that two new cases of Covid-19 had been recorded bringing the total number of active cases to 11.
House parties last weekend may have been the source of the infections.
