Dandy Town are set to fly the flag for Bermuda at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship qualifiers later this year, The Royal Gazette can reveal.As champions, Town earned the right to play at the tournament alongside the likes of the Puerto Rico Islanders, Joe Public from Trinidad and Jamaica’s Harbour View.While the exact location of the Hornets’ games have yet to be announced, the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) are believed to be preparing to send the team to follow in the footsteps of Devonshire Cougars who played last year.Although BFA chief executive David Sabir refused to comment on the matter, sources within Dandy Town have confirmed to the Gazette that they will be going.The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the 2011-12 Concacaf Champions League where they will meet sidesfrom North America and Central America.Last March saw Cougars travel to St. Vincent for their CFU Club Championships qualifiers where they drew with hosts Avenues 2-2, before losing to Suriname’s Leo Victor 5-2 and Joe Public 7-3.Back in the 1980s, PHC Zebras side took Bermuda football to dizzying heights by reaching the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Club Championships.Dandy Town are currently third in Premier Division six points behind leaders North Village.
