Taylor Wimpey shares go up amid reports of US sale

LONDON (AP) Shares in British homebuilder Taylor Wimpey PLC were up slightly yesterday on reports the company is preparing to sell its North American business.

Taylor Wimpey’s US and Canadian businesses include the Mirasol development in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, which hosts a PGA golf tour event.

The London-based company has long expressed an interest in selling its North American operations as it attempts to reduce debt levels and focus on sales in Britain’s post-recession market.

The stock was up 0.4 percent at 24.38 pence ($0.378) in early trading on the London Stock Exchange.

The company didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.
