All too easy for St George’s
Boulevard 1 St George’s 3Richard Todd’s St George’s enjoyed a comfortable Premier Division victory over Boulevard at BAA Field on Saturday night. The visitors made a flying start to the game with goals from Allan Douglas and Clay Darrell giving St George’s a two-nil lead inside the first 20 minutes.Douglas was afforded too much time and space by the Boulvard defence to fire home from inside the box, before Darrell extended his team’s lead 12 minutes later with a superb 30-yard effort.Boulevard could have reduced the deficit had Ajani Gibbons not put a first half penalty wide after St George’s goalkeeper Zane Hendrikson brought down Temiko Wilson. After the break, Boulevard did manage to pull a goal back when Aldonte Smith, who had only just come on a substitute, scrambled home a right wing cross on 64 minutes. But any hopes Blazers had of staging a comeback where quickly quashed when St George’s restored their two-goal advantage almost immediately through Jahron Dickinson from close range.St George’s had further chances to increase their lead with Douglas squandering a one-on-one chance, while substitute Mackie Cranie struck the crossbar with a looping header. The victory lifts St George’s into sixth in the table with Todd hoping the win will act as “a catalyst to kick-start” their campaign.“This was a better performance from us and it was important for us to win tonight,” he said. “I haven’t been able to pick the same team twice this season and we’ve had a tough opening schedule.“I thought we stifled Boulevard and applied ourselves well; hopefully this victory will be a catalyst for us to kick-start our season.”St George’s: Z Hendrickson, W Gregory, E Signor, J Warren, J Darrell, J Bassett, D Signor, T Hayward, J Dickinson, C Darrell (M Cranie, 80), A DouglasSubstitutes not used: E Trott, P Anderson, C OttleyGoals: Douglas, 7 Darrell, 19, Dickinson, 63Boulevard: S Swan, A Gibbons, R Wilson, J Crockwell, A Foggo, D Taylor, C Hayward, N Smith, R Burgess (S Outerbridge, 68), T Wilson, S Robinson (A Smith, 70)Substitutes not used: A Francis, T LoweGoal: Smith 62Referee: A MouchetteMan of the match: D Signor (St George’s)
