saw several offenders, and an alleged offender, appear in Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Worrell Bean, 50, of Cedar Park Road, Devonshire, was fined $950 for keeping six dogs on his property between January 7 and 26 and having five unlicensed dogs.

He was charged $750 and $250 respectively for having unlicensed animals and keeping more than four dogs.

Bean was given permission to have four dogs on his premises by the Director of Agriculture and Fisheries and alleged that he was holding two of the dogs for a relative.

Andre Famous, 39, was fined $750 for failing to have a licence to breed dogs.

The Fentons Drive, Pembroke man had assisted people with breeding dogs in the past and Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King noted: "Then you should have known you needed a permit.'' Rawn Rabain pleaded guilty to keeping three unlicensed dogs between January 19 and May 26 -- despite being warned twice by dog wardens.

Rabain, 43, of Middle Road, Warwick, was fined $750 as he was charged with one offence for the three dogs, a fact Mr. King regarded as a "break''.

Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said a warden collected Rabain's stray dog on January 19 and later warned him about his male and female German Shepherds and male Doberman Pincer not being licensed.

He told Mr. King: "I apologise to the court. It just slipped my mind. Once I found out, I got them licensed.'' But Mr. King responded that the wardens had warned him about the dogs.

Kirk Dowling, of Farm Lane, Warwick, was fined $500 for keeping an unsecured animal -- a pit bull which attacked and killed chickens.

The 19-year-old offered to compensate for the chickens but did not take the blame for the pit bull getting loose.
