Record-breaker Ronnika champion again

setting a new record in the triple jump on her way to yet another champion girls title at yesterday's Primary Schools Track and Field finals at the National Stadium.

The 11-year-old has been champion girl every year in primary school, last year setting a high jump record and this year a new mark in the over-11 triple jump with a leap of 10.72 metres (35-feet, two inches).

That's further than any of the primary boys have ever jumped with the boys' record standing at 10.15 metres. The old mark for the girls was 9.78 metres.

One other record was set, the over 15 girls shot where L. Dickinson of Somerset Primary had a new mark of 10.60 metres.

Bean also comfortably won the 100 metres in 12.85 seconds and the 200 metres in 27.44 and then led her relay team to victory on her way to a total of 21 points.

Other girls champions were Dy-Ann Simmons of West End in the under-11 division with 17 points after winning the 800 metres and placing second in the long jump while Mylinda Johnson of Victor Scott and Danielle Watson of Heron Bay shared the title in the under-10 division, both with 11 points.

Watson won the 200 metres and was second in the long jump while Johnson won the 100 metres and was second in the 800 metres.

Among the boys, Damon Saunders of Gilbert Institute was the under-10 champion with 14 points after winning the 100 metres and long jump and finishing fifth in the high jump.

Richard Walcott of Somerset Primary won the under-11 group with 15 points following a win in the 800 metres, second place in the 200 metres and third in the 100 metres.

The over-11 champion boys title was shared by Nasir Wade of West End and Kemar Curtis of Victor Scott on 17 points. Curtis won the 100 and 200 metres and was second in the 400 metres while Wade won the 400 metres and was second in both the 800 and 1500 metres.
