UBP?s Gibbons says Scott must fill in blanks

Opposition leader Grant Gibbons welcomed the belated release of the Auditor General?s report on the Bermuda Housing Corporation scandal but said it was up to the Premier to fill in the blanks.

The report was done in May 2002 and Dr. Gibbons stressed it was only the preliminary findings which led to the two-year Police investigation into criminal activity at BHC.

?The report is not the full story, the public have the right to know the further details about what went on in the Bermuda Housing Corporation involving taxpayer?s money and elected officials as investigated by the Police in their report.

?There?s a need for action by the Premier, his hands are not tied. He has the responsibility to hold members of his government accountable and demonstrate to the public he will not tolerate these activities. He has the power and responsibility to ask for the resignations of those involved.

?He has to set higher standards of elected officials, not lower, otherwise it will be very clear unethical activity by elected members of the Bermuda Government carries no consequences,? said Dr. Gibbons who said his side had not had the opportunity to fully study the report.
