CADA holding final TIPS training sessions next week
CADA is to hold its final TIPS training session before new liquor licence legislation comes into effect.Establishments must have all managers, supervisors and persons in charge of bar TIPS (training for intervention procedures) certified by June 1.Any establishment found in breach will face a fine of up to $3,000.The five-and-a-half hour course teaches bar and restaurant staff to spot underage drinkers, intervene in problem situations and identify and handle alcohol-related problems.CADA chairman Anthony Santucci said that there are around 40 spaces available in next week’s sessions, which will be held between February 21 and 25.Mr Santucci said: “We are encouraging any manager, supervisors, or persons who are regularly in charge of bars and who have not received TIPS certification to go to CADA’s website, or call CADA’s offices at 295-5982 and register for one of these sessions.”Training sessions cost $50 per person.
