Plisco sounds early warning

Eric Plisko will begin the defence of his Amateur Match Play title against Bill Jenks when the first round begins at Mid Ocean Club this morning.

Plisko laid down a marker for the week in yesterday's qualifying round, shooting a one-over par 71, four shots better than his nearest rival Jonathan Ingham.

Ingham though took the honours for winning the qualifier as defending champion Plisko was already guaranteed a place in the Championship flight.

Katrin Burnie triumphed in the ladies' event, shooting a nine-over par 80 with Kathy Lloyd-Hines second, another five shots back.
