Man arrested on sex assault charge

A 29-year-old man was arrested after an alleged sexual assault on a female yesterday.Meanwhile a second woman is assisting police after she was accosted twice as she jogged in Hamilton Parish yesterday morning.The alleged sexual assault occurred at 9am near Watch Hill Park in Smith's.The victim, who has not been named by police, was treated for minor abrasions.A police car on its way to the alleged victim was involved in a single-vehicle accident in St George's. No-one was injured however the car was extensively damaged.The second female was jogging in the area of Paynters and Harrington Sound Roads when she was accosted by a man on a motorcycle around 8.25am.Said a Police spokesman: “A struggle ensued but she was able to escape and continued jogging east along Harrington Sound Road. On reaching the area near the Walsingham Lane and Harrington Sound Road a short time later, the same male accosted the female jogger again; however this time she received assistance from a passing motorist.”The woman was not injured during the incident and is now assisting police. The suspect escaped, but a full description of him and the motorcycle he was riding has been circulated to officers on patrol.Police responded to a report of a woman in distress near South Road, Smith's Parish near Watch Hill Park around 9am.Said the spokesman: “On arrival they located the victim who alerted them to a suspect in this case.“The male suspect was pursued on foot by police and despite attempting to evade arrest by jumping into the ocean, he was arrested a short time later on suspicion of sexual assault.”The 29-year-old man is believed to still be in police custody.“The Bermuda Police Service would like to reassure the Bermuda community that they are deeply concerned by the attack on these two women and are taking these investigations extremely seriously.
