Constituency #19 - Pembroke West - Walton Brown
Walton Brown is a political scientist and well known for his social and market research and analysis of Bermuda. He lectured on politics and history at Bermuda College for twelve years and then entered the private sector full-time as founder and President of Research Innovations Limited. Mr. Brown has a keen understanding of the social and economic conditions of this island and its place in the global arena. Having spent a large portion of his youth on Stovell Bay Road in Pembroke West, Walton is sensitive to the needs of this constituency.
He was taught the importance of education and given passion for this country by his parents Walton Brown Sr. and Barbara Brown and his paternal grandfather, W.G. Brown. Mr Brown is an alumnus of West Pembroke School, The Berkeley Institute and Bermuda College.
Walton earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies from Queen's University in Kingston Ontario. He later obtained a Masters degree in Political Science from York University in Toronto. Mr Brown is the author of numerous academic papers focusing on a wide range of subjects on Bermudian society such as "Students, Drugs and the Search for Effective Strategy in Bermuda: Place the War Against Drugs in Social Context" and "The Bermudian Working Class and the Struggle for Reform". Walton has completed advanced doctoral research at York University and has made numerous presentations of research findings in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe.
As a candidate, Mr. Brown's plans for the community will focus on security concerns, drugs, the rejuvenation of the constituency's notable open spaces, ensuring seniors' needs are properly addressed; and he will listen closely to constituents to ensure their concerns are used to shape policy. He will also explore the viability of building a dock in the area for the numerous boat owners as well as work to address the challenges created for some home owners through the Queen's Bottom tax. Mr. Brown advocates investment in community centers as such venues help to make communities stronger and will improve the quality of life in Pembroke West.
Walton Brown serves on the Board of Education, International Business Forum, Archives Advisory Council and Permanent Arbitration Tribunal. He served as a Caribbean expert consultant to the United Nations from 1995-2005.
Walton is also a proud father of three young men, Jarrod (23), Taryq (19) and Dominic (11).
