Segways get TCD approval
Segway Human Transporters have been approved for Bermuda?s roads. After a year and a half of testing in Bermuda the vehicles have been deemed road worthy.
Local distributor Robert Territo said safety is certainly not an issue; ?The Segway checks the riders balance 120 times a second, you can?t fall off.? People are required to wear bicycle helmets while riding a Segway on the roads. He felt the product would be perfect for Bermuda as it grapples with traffic congestion and other traffic related issues.
?Think about it, every one of these on the road means another SUV is off the road.? Mr. Territo said. Intelligent transportation is important and necessary for an Island this size.?
Mr. Territo lives in the west end of the Island rides his Segway to the Rockaway dock, boards the ferry and arrives to work stress free. ?Everyone else is stuck in traffic, spending too much money on gas and wasting time looking for parking spots. I don?t have to do any of that.?
Segways take five hours to charge and only use 20 cents worth of electricity. A fully charged Segway runs for approximately 25 kilometres.
