Hunt for hit and run driver after woman seriously injured
Police yesterday appealed for public help after a hit and run where a 31-year-old woman suffered serious injuries.
A police spokesman said officers wanted to trace the driver of a silver Suzuki Swift car which was seen to hit the woman, stop, then drive off.
Police rushed to the scene after they got several reports of a woman on the road next to a motorcycle at the junction of Bishop Spencer Road and Palmetto Road in Pembroke.
The spokesman said: “She was reportedly conscious but unable to stand.
“Police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene and on arrival discovered the woman had sustained facial, neck and back injuries and was going in and out of consciousness.”
The incident happened just before 9.30pm last Sunday.
The spokesman said: “Reports are the victim was riding a black Yamaha Mio motorcycle west along Palmetto Road, when as she approached the junction with Bishop Spencer Road, she was struck by an unknown silver Suzuki Swift motor car, that was attempting to turn right onto Palmetto Road.”
The driver was said to have pulled into a bus lay-by east of the Palmetto Road junction and briefly got out of the car before they left the scene.
The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
The police spokesman said her injuries were serious, but not life threatening.
He added that the road was closed to traffic for as investigators examined the scene.
He said: “The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank those members of the public who came to the assistance of the victim and also those who have so far provided information to assist with the investigation into this matter.
“However, we encourage anyone who may have information on this incident and has not yet spoken to police, to please call 211 or the main police number, 295-0011.”
