Chewstick's Griot Sessions returns tonight

The Bermudian artist Zion, previosly known as Desta Zion Wilson, will perform with his backing band The White Boys tonight at the Chewstick Foundation's Griot Sessions.

The Chewstick Foundation will be re-launching its Griot Sessions performance series tonight. Zion (Desta Zion Wilson) is scheduled to launch the event with his band, The White Boys.

The performance takes place at the Chewstick's headquarters on the corner of Court and Elliot Streets at 9 p.m.

Since the Griot Sessions began last December, past acts have included vocalist Joy T. Barnum, Alex Winfield's apocalyptic puppetry, The Ital Foundation and St. Lucian poet Kendel Hippolyte. All performances are streamed live on the Chewstick website.

Zion has been a popular Chewstick performer for years, Mr. Smith added. "His first Griot Session was deeply moving and energetic and his second time promises to be better than the first.

"He has been living and performing in London gaining much-needed experience and broadening his fan base with his new backing band The White Boys. The show will include his original compositions and an awesome twist on well-known covers. Zion is here for a very limited time so you do not want to miss this, as there's no telling when he will come through again."

Tickets are $20. Part proceeds are in aid of The Chewstick Foundation.

Advance payment can be made at Chewstick between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today. Seating is limited. For more information ring 292-2439 (CHEW) or email info@chewstick.com.
