Women’s VolleyballBermuda 3 Hitra 0Bermuda opened the women's volleyball competition with a 3-0 victory over Hitra at Berkeley Institute.Bermuda won by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22 in the best-of-five match.Hitra is a Norwegian island covering 220 square miles and having a population of approximately 4,300.Bermuda swings back into action tomorrow at 6pm against Saaremaa at CedarBridge Academy, while Hitra takes on Saaremaa on Tuesday at 6pm, also at CedarBridge.Women's volleyball round robin play continues through Wednesday in two groups. Crossover semi-finals take place on Thursday, with the bronze medal match on Friday at 9am at Berkeley Institute and the gold medal match at 1.30pm, also at Berkeley.Saaremaa 3 Gotland 0Defending Island Games women's volleyball gold medallists Saaremaa opened the competition with a 3-0 victory over Gotland at Berkeley Institute on Sunday evening.Saaremaa won by scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-14 in the best-of-five match.Saaremaa faces Bermuda tomorrow at 6 p.m. at CedarBridge Academy, while Gotland take on the Cayman Islands tomorrow at 10 a.m., also at CedarBridge.Aland 3 Guernsey 0Aland defeated Guernsey 3-0 at CedarBridge Academy last night.Aland won by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-12 in the best-of-five match.Aland faces Greenland tomorrow at 8.15 p.m. at Berkeley Institute, while Guernsey take on the Faroe Islands tomorrow at 10 a.m., also at Berkeley.Faroe Islands 3 Greenland 0The Faroe Islands defeated Greenland 3-0 in women’s volleyball play at CedarBridge Academy, Devonshire.The Faroes won by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-10 in the best-of-five match.The Faroes, a self-governing region of Denmark, are located in the heart of the Gulf Stream halfway between Norway and Iceland.The 18 islands have a population of approximately 49,000.Greenland, the world’s largest island, is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark.With a population of 56,000, it is the least densely populated country in the world.The Faroes are back in action tomorrow at 10am against Guernsey at Berkeley Institute, while Greenland takes on Aland tomorrow (Monday) at 8.15pm, also at Berkeley.Women’s volleyball round robin play continues through Wednesday in two groups.
