Montgomery triggers Teachers points rush
Police knew this would be their last opportunity to tame the Teachers tiger, but nevertheless they crumbled to defeat.
Andrew Correia was an early casualty of war, being carried to the bench after two minutes, but an able replacement was found in the form of Ross Webber.
Initially neither team was able to do much in the scoring column, except for an exchange of failed penalties between Nathan Browne and Alan Oliver, while Webber missed a sitter moments before the half.
To their credit, Teachers dominated most phases of set play, pushing the Police pack at will, but were constantly stymied by their own gaffes, dropping and fumbling several chances away.
Scoreless at the break, Teachers came out with greater purpose in the second half, spurred by the arrival of Mike Montgomery, who ploughed over the line for a converted try eight minutes on following a scrum break from Bobby Hurdle.
Making all the right moves, Teachers went further ahead through a Ashley Redmond try, before Oliver responded with a penalty for Police. But, with skipper Sean Field Lament in the sin bin, Teachers gained added insurance as Butch Robinson and Pat Drea each went over.
Mariners 29 Renegades 5 Mariners fought back from behind to ultimately dismantle a fading Renegades 29-5 at National Sports Club grounds.
Gades took an early lead through a quick effort from Andy Trinder, but this would be their only slice of glory on the day.
Mariners stormed back with a converted try from John Lowe, and Keith Hodgkins converted a penalty just before the half.
Following the break Mariners got tries from Dixon and Nick Seddon (two), two of which were converted, to complete the rout.
