A racing card that started out on a sloppy track under overcast skies turned into an afternoon of pony racing under somewhat sunny conditions on Sunday at

As the afternoon progressed the crowd grew and witnessed some competitive races as the track dried out, allowing the ponies to turn in fast times.

Michael DeCosta's two-year-old El Grande won his first race and in so doing captured the Noah's Ark Feed and Supply Feature Race of the Day. There were five double winners -- Anthony Rego with J.B.'s T.W.Belle, Annie Sousa's Little Dinger, Dal Vasconcelos driving Eddie The Great and Eddie Roque was the day's top driver with two wins each from Tuxedo's Bow Tie and Shamrock Formal Attire.

Michael Roberts drove three winners as he dueled with Roque in the battle for the leading driver.

SOCCER SOC Kyle Lightbourne ended a three-game goalless drought by scoring twice in Walsall's 4-0 win over Peterborough on Saturday.

The win was the biggest for Walsall this season and lifted them out of the relegation zone in the English Second Division.

Lightbourne opened the scoring with a shot from an angle inside the box after working a one-two with Kevin Wilson. Wilson scored the second himself from the penalty spot and Lightbourne set up loan player Louie Donawa for the third in the second half.

Lightbourne closed out the scoring in the 87th minute with his seventh goal of the season after the goalkeeper's punched clearance landed to him and he lobbed the ball over two players on the goalline.

"It was the result we were looking for,'' said Lightbourne. "We lost a couple of games but have been playing quite well and just haven't been getting the results.'' Lightbourne now trails another Bermudian, Shawn Goater of Bristol City by three goals in the division's scoring race. Both players have set themselves targets of 25 goals this season.

POOL POO Gary Skinner was named player-of-the-week in the Bermuda International Pool League after leading third-place War Vets Snipers to a victory over seventh-place Docksiders.

Matches originally scheduled for November 28 have been brought forward to November 21.
