Goalkeeper Hill pulls out of Bermuda squad

Forced Withdrawl: Jahquil Hill

Goalkeeper Jahquil Hill has withdrawn from the Bermuda team for the trip to Mexico for their Concacaf Nations League match, the Bermuda Football Association confirmed late yesterday.

Hill did not travel to St Croix with the team for today’s friendly match against Major League Soccer outfit DC United, stating he was unavailable for personal reasons.

“The timing of the withdrawal was not ideal as it left little time to replace him,” the BFA said in a statement.

“Despite the withdrawal from the team, Coach [Kyle] Lightbourne is more than confident that the squad assembled is capable of getting the result required against Mexico.

“Nahki Wells will meet the team in Texas for pre-match preparation before the delegation travels on to Toluca, Mexico.”

Hill missed the opening Nations League match against Panama in September because of an ankle injury before returning to the squad for last month’s home match against Mexico which Bermuda lost 5-1.

Dale Eve has been Lightbourne’s preferred choice as his No 1 goalkeeper, with Hill and Quinaceo Hunt the two back-up goalkeepers.

Today’s match against DC United will take place at the Bethlehem Soccer Complex.

On Monday, the Bermuda team will travel to Mexico ahead of taking on their hosts at the Estadio Nemesio Diez on Tuesday starting at 10.30pm Bermuda time.
