The woman and her husband were walking on Richmond Road in Pembroke at about 8 p.m. when a cyclist rode onto the sidewalk and tried to grab the woman's handbag, Police said.

After he failed the first time, he turned around and rode directly at the woman, striking her in the face and knocking her to the ground.

The culprit fled when a truck driver came to the woman's aid.

She was treated at the hospital for a cut lip and a badly bruised knee.

Detectives would like to speak to the driver of the light-coloured pick-up truck.
