Two Policewomen gave chase after the 21-year-old threw a bottle through the window of a Church Street office on Tuesday afternoon.

The man fled on foot toward Victoria Street with the officers in pursuit, but made his escape by flagging down a truck and demanding a ride to St. John's Road.

There was nothing to indicate the man threatened the driver, Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said.

A Police investigation led to the man's arrest soon after.

In a separate incident, an unprovoked attack by a pipe wielding gang of youths left a 22-year-old workman bruised and shaken.

The group of five set upon the man and beat him about the face as he was carrying out electrical installations on Parsons Road in Pembroke.

Police are investigating the report but say the motive for the attack, which took place on Tuesday afternoon, is unclear.

"It appeared to be unprovoked,'' said P.c. Venning yesterday.

Police believe the victim, who suffered facial bruising and cuts, did not know his attackers.
