Cricketer injured in crash
minor injuries.
But the elderly driver, who was not identified, remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit of a New Delhi hospital.
Mr. Gibbons was in India to attend the seven-hour funeral of Ramesh Nanaagetre, one of the managers of the World Select team of which he is captain. Mr. Nanaagetre died in England of a heart attack last week.
Yesterday, Mr. Gibbons told The Royal Gazette he was travelling from the funeral on Sunday when the crash with a truck at a two-way roundabout occurred.
With him in the car were other members of the world team, South Africans Damon Otonyo, Nicholas Maverock, Ben Taylor of English team Hampshire and David Sylvester of Dominica.
The driver of the car, in which Gibbons was a front seat passenger, was still in intensive care when Mr. Gibbons left India on Monday.
The local cricketer suffered bruising to his left knee, which hit the dashboard, and he also suffered a blow to his head which hit the windscreen.
"We couldn't even turn off because there was a wall on the other side,'' Mr.
Gibbons explained. "We jammed on brakes and the truck came right into us.
"They had to cut the driver out of the car.
"I was sitting in front and my injuries came from hitting the dashboard. We were just coming to a big roundabout when we saw the truck coming at us.'' Mr. Gibbons, now on crutches, was taken by the physio of his English club, Wycombe House in the Middlesex Championship League, to see a knee specialist.
He is due to see another doctor today about the headaches he has been having.
