Hubbard explores the will of God

Calvary Gospel Chapel has been enjoying its annual Fall Bible Conference this week, under the tutelage of Dr. Donald Hubbard.

Best known by many in Bermuda for his radio work broadcast on the Bible Broadcasting Network as a featured preacher on the Worship Hour, Words of Praise and Dynamic Living broadcasts, he also pastored at Boca Raton Community Church.

Since retiring, Dr. Hubbard and his wife, Joy, have focused their ministry on equipping pastors and church leaders around the world, and, through the years, have visited more than 80 countries.

The focus of Bible Conference has been, "Knowing the Will of God," and Dr. Hubbard's messages have included, "Defining the will of God," "Discover the will of God," "Deciding the will of God," and "Doing the will of God."

"God is primarily concerned with the development of character," Dr. Hubbard shared, when explaining is messages. "There is a responsibility that we have to live our faith… There is often a disconnect between what we live and what we believe."

He called for believers to increase their loyalty to Christ, living a quality life everywhere and developing an every day faith, as opposed to Sunday Christianity.

In addition to the Sunday and evening services, the church also held two lunch time sessions on Monday and Tuesday on the topic, "Contemporary Issues Church Leaders Must Face."

Speaking for about an hour and a half and then opening it up for questions, Dr. Hubbard said that the sessions were well attended and there was a "nice response" to his presentations.

Some of the topics covered included the Emerging Church movement, doctrine, understanding Christian truths, the Trinity and the marginalization of Jesus Christ and the church in contemporary society.

While specific issues facing Bermuda, such as youth violence, were not covered, Dr. Hubbard did have this to share: "The trends we do see are trends that are contributing to a society that is becoming more and more chaotic."

He particularly pointed at the influence of the media, particularly movies and television, on young people today.
