Coming up roses

Old Garden Roses Association of France. She will stage two slide shows the first being on Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. at Thorburn Hall, Christ Church, Warwick. The topic: `Roses, Bulbs, and Perennials at La Bonne Maison'.

The second will be held on Friday May 1 at 3 p.m. in the Horticultural Hall, Botanical Gardens. The topic is: `Roses and Clematis at La Bonne Maison'.

Madame Masquelier was born in Alsace and spent her early childhood in Lyon.

She studied in Paris, Cambridge, and Madrid.

In her own garden Madame Odile grows about 660 different roses and the collection was turned into an association for the protection and preservation of old roses in 1988.

Her garden is featured in Mirabel Osler's `Secret Gardens of France' and Peter Beales last book `Visions of Roses'.

In 1994, the city of Lyon asked her to plant an Old French Roses garden overlooking the Old Lyon, and in 1996 a Historic Rose Garden in the Parc Tete d'Or.

In March 1995 she founded the non profit association `Roses Anciennes en France' and started to plan the eighth International Heritage Convention in Lyon for 1999.
