Bermuda 8Falklands 0Rai Simons and Zeiko Lewis both bagged braces as Bermuda ran out comfortable winners over Falklands in the NatWest Island Games yesterday.Antwan Russell, Domico Coddington, Damon Ming and Tyrell Burgess also scored for the hosts.Russell opened the scoring in the sixth minute when a Falklands defender was adjudged to have handed the ball in the box.The striker made no mistake from the penalty spot.Ming then doubled the lead in the 12th minute when the Russell laid off a pass at the top of the area for the Dandy Town midfielder, who struck a well hit ball from 20 yards.Lewis would supply Coddington a defence splitting ball in the 31st minute that found him with space in the area.Coddington lashed his effort past the onrushing Flaklands goalkeeper.Lewis would get his first of the match in the 38th minute as Coddington turned from goalscorer to supplier, leaving the diminutive midfielder the simple task of side footing from close range.Simons got his name on the sheet only four minutes after coming on the field, with Burgess being the producer of a precise cutback that found the striker alone at the back post in the 57th.Lewis was at it again, this time using the outside of the boot to beat both goalkeeper and defender at the near post in the 73rd minute, before Burgess slipped the ball through the keeper’s legs five minutes later.Simons capped off a fine performancewith his strike in the 84th minute, this time with a neat finish to the back post after missing a gift of a chance moments before.“The mood is pretty good, the priority is to win so we got the win and we are pleased,” said coach Andrew Bascome.“We are trying our best to get everyone some playing time and that maybe the only issue we have.“The guys are representing Bermuda and we want to make our country proud so this is an opportunity to get success no matter what level it is.“Football has to respect the game and their opponents so we want to continue on the same path.“We have a good chance of getting to the final and if we can there then the pressure of winning the competition sets in and it’s a new ball game.“We have to maintain our focus and responsibilities and continue to play right to the end and hopefully that is what we can do for the remainder of the tournament.”In yesterday’s other match, Greenland ran rampant over Froya to the tune of 12-0 at the Goose Gosling Field.Bermuda: F Hall, J Nusum, D Williams, D Ming, T Burgess, J Harvey, R Lee, Z Lewis, D Bascome (K Bean, 58), D Coddington (M Warren, 53), A Russell (R Simons, 43)Bermuda 6Hitra 1Tschana Wade scored a brace as Bermuda made it two wins out of two for Bermuda women's national team in comfortable fashion last night.Aaliyah Nolan, Cheyra Bell, Jessica Furtado, and Rayni Maybury all scored, while Julie Kristoffersen scored for Hitra. The goalscoring started in the 18th minute when Wade struck from the penalty spot after a foul in the area.Nolan then doubled the lead in the 28th minute after an enterprising run.Bell grabbed her goal in the 39th minute when she pounced on a goalmouth scramble in the Hitra area.Furtado was next on the scoresheet in the 55th minute , followed by Wade’s second of the match 13 minutes later.Maybury got the sixth goal for her side in the 74th minute, but the clean sheet wasn’t to be preserved as Kristoffersen scored in the 82nd minute when she beat Stacy Babb.Bermuda: S Babb, C Bell, W Bean, J Edness (C Darrell-Virgil, 64), K Fox, A Furbert, J Furtado, A Nolan (R Maybury, 56), T Thomas, T Wade, L Yates (T Darrell, 52)
